Support to the isolation and care center at Jowhar Regional Hospital

The first COVID-19 cargo arrived at the Isolation and Care Center at Jowhar Regional Hospital, the main health facility of the Hirshabelle region in Somalia, with a catchment area of ​​about 250,000 people.

This contribution is part of the UNFPA country program for Somalia, financed by AICS, and carried out in partnership with the Italian NGO Terre Solidali for what concerns the management of the two hospitals of focus of the Italian Cooperation in Somalia, the Jowhar hospital in Hirshabelle and the De Martino hospital in Mogadishu.

This AICS contribution to UNFPA activities in Somalia was publicly announced by Deputy Minister Emanuela Del Re, during her participation in the International Conference on Population Development ICPD25 in Nairobi in November 2019, also in consideration of the important results achieved in a fundamental sector for the human development of the country such as health. The AICS contribution is part of the broader support to the “Somalia Road Map towards Universal Health Coverage 2019-2023”, recently approved by the federal government of Somalia and in line with the Somali Women’s Charter recently approved by the Ministry for Women and the Development of Rights Somali humans.
